切開を伴うような本格的なものであれば痛みや内出血、腫れといった症状が強くでる可能性がありダウンタイムも２週間程度は必要とされます。一方でプチ整形の場合には傷つける組織が少ないためダウンタイムも短めで１週間程度が一般的です。その一方で施術によって引張る範囲が広いため費用はプチ整形でも４０万円以上するため非常に高額な美容整形術になります。

ＳＯＯＦリフトを行う場合には、他の美容整形術と同様にリスクが伴います。特に技術の低い医師などであればそのリスクは高いものになり痛みや内出血、腫れがひどくでるケースがあります。またプチ整形は簡単に行えるイメージがありますが、ヒアルロン酸注射やボトックス注射のように薬品を注入するタイプのものを除けば、通常の整形手術と同様のリスクがあります。ただしダウンタイムが短めなので身体への負担は低めです。一方で薬品を注入するタイプのＳＯＯＦリフトでも経験の浅い医師であれば失敗するリスクが高くなります。
ＳＯＯＦリフトにおけるリスクとしては、第一に見た目の変化がないことや傷跡が目立つといったものがあります。これらは、見た目の問題であり日常生活に支障を来すことはありませんが、問題が出るものとしては、ひきつれやしびれなどがあります。ひきつれやしびれは手術によって神経を傷つけた可能性があり再生そのものが困難な後遺症になります。
